AMD Phenom II CPU with six core Digital Storm unleashes new SPECIAL OPS gaming PC line starting at $987

Let’s face it: Gaming computers are often out of the reach of many potential buyers, with the ultimate behemoths priced around $10,000. Of course, you do get the best parts and attention to build detail you don’t get from a $500 Dell, but at those prices, it might be a better option to build it yourself.

With its new SPECIAL|OPS line, Digital Storm is promising to deliver some of that special magic that makes gaming desktops different than their mainstream brethren, including free overclocking (for a limited time) and the company’s 72-hour “stress test” of each system’s components, starting at a reasonable $987.

For that price, you get an AMD Phenom II X6 processor overclocked to 3.5GHz, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and a Cooler Master Elite 310. The Nvidia GeForce GT 220 graphics card is standard, though you can swap it out for an ATI Radeon HD 5670 at no cost. For an extra $100, you can get a Core i5-750 CPU, GeForce GTS 250 graphics, and the sexier-looking Cooler Master HAF 922 case.

Of course, from that price point, you can add on until your bank account is run dry. You can choose from a number of cases, including additional Cooler Master and Silverstone chassis, other Phenom II or Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, double the RAM, and upgrade to one of Nvidia’s latest Fermi graphics cards. You can even liquid-cool your CPU for $59 if you want to overclock even further.

Would you rather build a similar system on your own for possibly less money, or prefer to buy one already pre-assembled and overclocked? Let us know in the Comments section.
